Packaging for local deliveries: a simple checklist

September 28, 20261 min read

The right box, filler and label stop damage before it starts. A simple packaging checklist for local online orders.

Local delivery is gentler than shipping across the country, but packaging still matters. A few minutes at the packing table saves a damaged order, an unhappy customer and a claim.

The checklist

  1. Use a box that fits. Leave about 5 cm around the item for padding. Too big and things slide; too small and corners take the hits.
  2. Fill the empty space. Paper, air pillows or bubble wrap. Shake the box: nothing should move.
  3. Protect corners and glass. Wrap fragile items individually and put them in the middle of the box.
  4. Tape the H. Tape the middle seam and both edge seams, top and bottom.
  5. Label clearly. The order number and the recipient's name on the outside make the courier's job easier.
  6. Keep liquids upright and sealed. Seal lids with tape and put the bottle in a bag.

Special items

  • Prints and signs: keep them flat, with stiff board on both sides, and mark "Do not bend".
  • Food: sealed and labelled. Tell us if it needs to stay upright.
  • Heavy items: use a double-wall box and choose the size that matches the weight. Anything over 100 lb gets a quote.

What we can't carry

Some items can't go in a courier vehicle at all, such as dangerous goods and cash. See our list of prohibited and restricted items.

Declare the value

Every delivery includes coverage up to a set amount. If what you're sending is worth more, declare its value when you book, and keep proof of value (an invoice or receipt) in case you need to make a claim.
